Most people with arthroscopic shoulder pain problems get better with a conservative management program including physical therapy. However, some patients with persistent symptoms despite adequate rehabilitation may need surgery. A shoulder arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgery. The surgeon inserts an arthroscope, a pencil-thin device with a lens and lighting system, into tiny incisions. The camera relays images to a monitor, and the surgeon makes a diagnosis.

Elbow Fracture & replacement

A break in the upper forearm bone (radius) or at the elbow joint (olecranon) can cause pain, swelling, and loss of motion. These fractures typically happen when people fall on an outstretched arm. The fracture may not show on x-rays and must be diagnosed with a physical exam. The doctor checks for tenderness in other areas of the shoulder, arm, and wrist to find if any bones are also broken or injured. The doctor may palpate the area to feel if there is a shift in the position of any of the elbow joints, which could indicate that the elbow bones are displaced.

If the fracture is open, meaning bone fragments stick out through a wound or break through skin, it requires immediate medical treatment to minimize infection in the bone and wound. Treatment usually involves a splint or cast to keep the elbow in place. Prescription or over-the-counter pain medications can be used to help manage the pain until healing begins.

Typical Elbow Injuries

Distal Biceps rupture: Common in people who lift heavy weights
Elbow instability: where ligament on outer side of elbow gives way
Thrower’s elbow: where ligament on inner side of elbow gives way
Terrible triad: A severe injury because of fall
Neglected injuries

Elbow Fracture : Non-surgical treatment

Non-surgical treatments for a nondisplaced elbow fracture include rest, keeping the arm elevated, and using ice. Physical therapy can start as soon as the pain is relieved enough to move the arm. The doctor may also prescribe a numbing agent to reduce pain. If the fracture is displaced, surgery to put the elbow bones back in the correct positions and stabilize the hinge joint is needed. The doctor may use wires, pins, plates, and screws to put the bones back in place and hold them there during healing.
